Ritter Family / Maternity Session

April 25, 2016

I think one of the greatest joys in my job as a photographer is getting to see my clients on the best days of their lives – getting to capture all of those amazing, joyful, emotional moments. Wedding days are pretty fantastic; pure bliss. But even better is getting to make awesome, real connections with clients – becoming friends with them being a kick butt byproduct of the time we spend together on those days – and the Ritters have become exactly that.

I captured Dan + Whitney’s sweet Summer wedding in August of 2014 on the shores of Lake Superior (a most perfect of Duluth days) and was fortunate to stay in touch with them since – following their move to the Twin Cities, new jobs and life changes. When they reached out to me last November about some exciting news (the “hey, we’re having a baby” kind of news) I was thrilled for them! It didn’t even register that they were asking me to capture their next adventure together – I just thought they were emailing me to catch up. So when I finally put all the pieces together that they were asking me to photograph baby Clyde I was so very honored.

So then fast forward to April of this year – Whitney was the Maid of Honor in another wedding I was photographing in Duluth and we planned to squeeze in a maternity session in Duluth while they were home for this wedding. Our goal was to have the lake + the woods as a backdrop for the photos, since they so dearly miss the beauty of Duluth. Shooting the session for me was really more of an excuse to catch up with old friends – way more fun than work. Hugs all around, getting to put my hand on baby Clyde hanging out in Mama’s belly and lots of laughs had me walking away full up with all the happy feels.

This is what makes my job so worthwhile – The connections, the relationships, the ability to watch my clients – my friends – journey through life together, getting to capture all of their amazing new adventures // Sweet Clyde, you are so very loved and you have the best parents around! I cannot wait to meet you and see Mom + Dad love you as fiercely as they love each other.
