Boudoir Mini Sessions

February 18, 2013

“One of the most courageous things you can do is identify yourself, know who you are, what you believe in and where you want to go.”

– Sheila Murray Bethel

When I started this business, I would have never dreamed I would be doing Boudoir photography. I have always been the girl in an oversized sweatshirt and yoga pants, trying to find a slice of “sexy” in between 12 hour work days and all night edit sessions. “Boudoir” was a word I used to sound like I knew French – always followed with a small giggle. For months now, I have had requests for private boudoir sessions coming in & wasn’t sure how to handle them. I think a big part of it was my own insecurities – If I was not overly confident how was I going to make my clients feel empowered? I talked a lot about the topic with my close friends, trying to gauge if this was something I could handle. My work is so important to me & I would never want to show off photos I was not proud of – I am the gal that wants to be great at something before she has even learned it. My giant achilles heel – perfection in an imperfect world.

One night, after a few glasses of wine & catching up with girlfriends, I was left thinking about each of our own insecurities we often talk about. If you have curly hair you want it straight, if you have a booty you wish you didn’t – most women have things we would liked tweaked. It is the way we have all felt looking into the mirror at some point – always wanting to improve, change or go back. We have all been there. I  simply got tired of hearing all the kick ass, powerful, fantastically lovely women in my life talk this way. We are always one day younger than tomorrow – we should celebrate our beauty & life.

So, I took the plunge and offered a boudoir mini session day. In late January I booked a gorgeous downtown Duluth hotel suite, and offered hour long packages which included hair & makeup by the talented Amanda of Language of Hair. I myself even got in front of the camera for a few photos (Thank You Miss Emma of Emma Jae Photography!) Later that night I found myself staring at my computer screen with, dare I say it, Confidence. I felt sexy & young looking at the outcome of my images. All my awesome ladies from the mini session had insanely stunning sessions. Two of my clients graciously allowed me to share some of their images with you (THANK YOU K & L!) I think they are gorgeous & couldn’t be more proud of both these ladies for being so darn brave and confident! It is inspiring.

Because of my crazy positive feedback from the first mini session day & the overwhelming interest since then, JaneCane Photography is excited to announce that we will be offering a second Boudoir Mini Session day in May! Details to come soon, message me for more information or with any questions. I also am now offering private sessions that can be scheduled on an individual basis.

Be confident in yourself lovelies. xoxo, AJC
